“I don’t see the whole race issue. Theres no way the Avatar universe is our Earth, or at least modern day Earth. So the question isn’t “Is Aang white or Asian” He’s an airbender…. that’s his race.”

He’s an Airbender… a fictional race intentionally modeled after real life ASIAN cultures, and meant to reflect them in a fantasy context.
Come on, white people.  We’ve got PLENTY of fictional fantasy worlds and characters strongly and obviously based on us.  In most of those stories everyone looks white and lives in a land based (either loosely or explicitly) on real-life European culture.  Even if they aren’t from a country that actually exists, that doesn’t suddenly make them not white.  The obvious parallells are not hard to understand.
So, can we please stop being so squeamish about giving people of color the same opportunities to have fiction that’s about THEM, too?

So this is why we never saw a blond character.

Well with all the Asian-inspired names, fighting styles, currency, clothing, food, and writing…

…it’s safe to assume that everyone is wite peepls.
